Phil competed in three Olympic Games and is considered one of the success stories of Australian breaststroke swimming of the 1990’s. Phil specialised in the 100m and 200m events having held both Australian Records.

Phil became the face of Australian breaststroke from 1993 to 1999 winning 9 Gold Medals collectively at the World Championships, Pan Pacific Championships and Commonwealth Games across the 100m(3) and 200m(3) events as well as the 4 x 100m Medley (3).
