In 1987, just weeks after Neil represented South Australia in soccer he was involved in a heavy tackle breaking both bones in his right shin – severing an artery which went undetected – leading to Neil having the lower part of his right leg amputated.
After the accident, Neil overcame many adversities to become one of Australia’s and the Worlds’ best amputee athletes, amassing 40 Gold Medals at International events.
He competed at 3 IPC World Championships, two IAAF World Championships and 4 Paralympics where he won 6 Gold, 6 Silver and 3 Bronze Medals.
Neil has held numerous World Records and still holds the Australian Records in class (T44) in the 100m (11.42sec), 200m (22.78sec), 400m (51.89sec) and the 800m (2:12.44).
