Mike was a member of the Gold Medal winning 4000m Team Pursuit at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, defeating the supposedly unbeatable United States and rode with a broken scaphoid bone in his left wrist.

He won Gold in the Men’s Team Pursuit and Men’s Individual Pursuit at the 1982 Commonwealth Games, as well as Gold in the Men’s 4000m Team Pursuit at Edinburgh in 1986, where he also had the honour of Flag Bearer for the Australian Team.

Mike Turtur is an influential figure in Australian Cycling as President of the UCI Track Commission, President Oceania Cycling Confederation and Board Member of the Australian Sports Commission.

In retirement from the competition arena, Mike had a significant impact on his sport as the former Race Director of the “Tour Down Under”.
