Kerri Pottharst OAM

Volleyball

Inducted in 2011

Pottharst began playing indoor Volleyball at 16 and soon became one of the best in Australia, before a knee injury saw her move to the sand and turn professional.

In 1996 she partnered Natalie Cook and the pair celebrated Beach Volleyball’s arrival as an Olympic sport, by claiming a Bronze Medal in Atlanta.

That year, Pottharst and Cook also won a Silver Medal in the World Championships. But their greatest triumph was four years later and happened on home soil. The combination dominated the competition and beat Brazil in the Gold Medal play-off.

Pottharst has since been awarded an Order of Australia Medal, inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame and is in high demand as a motivational speaker.
