John Reedman played his first Test Match vs England in Sydney in the 1894-95 series after first appearing for South Australia in 1887-88 as a 22-year-old. He captained South Australia from 1900-1906. In 76 games for SA he scored 3068 runs with 1 century and took 114 wickets.

His football achievements included representing South Australia on four occasions. He captained South Adelaide from 1889-1898 and won Premierships with them in 1892, 1893, 1895, 1896 and 1898. He played for North Adelaide from 1899-1907, including as captain 1901-1905. North went on to win three Premierships in this time – 1900, 1902 and 1905.

John was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 1996 and the SA Football Hall of Fame in 2002.
