Jason ‘Dizzy’ Gillespie is a celebrated Australian cricketer who represented Australia from 1996 to 2006. He played 71 Test matches, taking 259 wickets at an average of 26.13, and scored 1,218 runs, including a notable unbeaten 201 as a nightwatchman—the highest score by a nightwatchman in Test history. In One Day Internationals, he claimed 142 wickets with best figures of 5/22. After retiring, Gillespie transitioned to coaching, achieving success with Yorkshire County Cricket Club, where he led them to two County Championship titles, and coaching the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League.
He has also coached Papua New Guinea’s national team and Sussex.Gillespie’s contributions to cricket have been recognized with induction into SACA’s Avenue of Honour, a statue at Adelaide Oval, and being named an Australia Post Legend of Cricket in 2021. His legacy as both a player and coach continues to impact Australian cricket.
