Dwayne Thuys is a renowned Australian surf lifesaver celebrated for his exceptional achievements in the sport during the 1980s and 1990s. He made history by winning the World Surf Life Saving Championships Open Ironman event in Hawaii in 1983, becoming South Australia’s first World Champion in this discipline.
Thuys also excelled at the World Masters Championships in 2006, securing gold medals in both the Ironman and Board Rescue events.Nationally, he was a two-time Australian Ironman Champion and dominated the South Australian State Championships, winning the Open Ironman title nine times. His contributions to surf lifesaving earned him Life Membership of Seacliff Surf Lifesaving Club in 2006 and induction into the Surf Lifesaving South Australia Hall of Fame in 2016.
After 43 years on Australia’s east coast, Thuys has returned to South Australia to inspire future generations of surf lifesavers.
