Dianne Alagich was a prominent Australian soccer player who represented her country at the highest levels of international competition.
She began her career in the Australian Under 16 team in 1992 and progressed to make her senior international debut for the Matildas at just 16 years old in 1995. Alagich’s international career spanned from 1995 to 2008, during which she earned 86 caps for Australia and scored 3 goals13. She participated in three FIFA Women’s World Cups (1999, 2003, and 2007) and two Olympic Games (2000 and 2004), starting in every single game of Australia’s World Cup and Olympic campaigns from 1999 to 20077.
Alagich’s consistency and skill were recognized with her inclusion in the Olympic Athlete Program from 1996 to 2008 and as an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder from 1999 to 2008. Her contributions to Australian soccer were further acknowledged when she was awarded the Australian Sports Medal in 2000.
