David Tillett AM is a highly respected figure in international sailing, with a career spanning over five decades as an athlete, umpire, and jury chairman. He began his career as the 1969 International Cadet World Champion and went on to become a three-time Australian Champion. Transitioning to officiating, Tillett served as a jury member or chairman at five Olympic Games (1996-2012), eight America’s Cups, and multiple Volvo Ocean Races.
He has held leadership roles within World Sailing, including Chair of the Racing Rules Committee (2000-2012) and the Constitution Committee since 2020. His contributions have been recognized with numerous honors, including the Australian Sports Medal (2000), Member of the Order of Australia (2014), and induction into the South Australian Sports Hall of Fame (2021).
Tillett continues to shape the sport through his expertise and dedication to sailing governance and officiating.
