Aurelio started his playing career with Adelaide City, where he played for seven years before moving overseas. In 1994-95 at Standard Liege in Belgium, he became Belgium’s top goal scorer and was voted Oceania Player of the Year in 1995.

Aurelio played 53 times for Australia, captaining the side on 7 occasions. This included 3 World Cup campaigns (1994, 1998 and 2002). He also represented Australia at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, scoring 2 goals.

In his senior career spanning over 20 years, he played over 500 games scoring in excess of 120 goals in six different countries.

He was Adelaide United Football Club’s Inaugural Captain and later became Assistant Coach, then Head Coach.

In 2004 he was inducted into the Football Federation Australia Hall of Fame, and in the same year, the Football South Australia Hall of Fame.
