Adrian Quist

Tennis

Inducted in 2011

Quist is one of Australia’s first true legends of tennis. Although he was a three-time Australian Championships Men’s Singles Champion in 1936, 1940 and 1948, he is primarily remembered as a great doubles player.

He won the Australian Doubles title 10 years straight, the last 8 together with John Bromwich, as well as the French Doubles (1935), the US Doubles (1939) and remarkably won the Wimbledon Doubles title twice, 15 years apart.

Adrian and John won the Davis Cup for Australia for the first time in 1939 and are the only team to win after being down 2-0 on the first day.

He is second only to Lleyton Hewitt for Davis Cup victories. Quist was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island, in 1984.
