Stars Trek to Support Mental Health

By Karen Grace Prince Via. The Advertiser 19/07/25

Adelaide personalities are lacing up for mental health at the annual Coastrek hiking challenge in September. The challenge is simple: pick up your boots, grab a friend or two and take a hike across the Fleurieu Peninsula to raise funds and awareness for mental health. Among those walking the talk is radio presenter Ali Clarke and Olympic gold medallist Juliet Haslam, with focus on creating opportunities for women to thrive in social spaces and promoting women’s health.

“Whether you’re hiking 20km or 35 km along our beautiful South Australian coastline or taking your first steps into sport or leadership, it’s all about showing up for yourself and for each other,” Clarke said. Haslam, who is leading the strategy team of Sport SA, is excited to see women come together to support each other. “Partnering with Coastrek allows us to extend (the) mission—empowering women to connect, challenge themselves, and champion wellbeing in every part of their lives,” she said.

About 10 per cent of South Australians, amounting to 175,203 people, have been diagnosed with mental illnesses such as depression or anxiety, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. With about 1000 people expected to participate, the daylong hike has been designed to promote mental-health awareness and raise funds for Beyond Blue, a 24/7 support service for Australians struggling with mental-health challenges. Trekkers will have the choice between a 20km or 35 km route.
