Bruce McAvaney OAM is a legendary Australian sports broadcaster whose career spans over four decades, making him one of the most iconic voices in sports media.

Renowned for his meticulous preparation and infectious enthusiasm, McAvaney has covered a wide array of major events, including 13 Summer Olympic Games, AFL Grand Finals, Melbourne Cups, Australian Open Tennis tournaments, and Commonwealth Games. His commentary has become synonymous with some of Australia’s most memorable sporting moments, such as Cathy Freeman’s gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Starting his career in Adelaide in 1978, McAvaney quickly rose to prominence, moving to national television and becoming a trusted voice across multiple sports.

His contributions to broadcasting have earned him numerous accolades, including the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in 2002, induction into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2002, and the TV Week Logie Hall of Fame in 2022.
